jhp workshops, something for everyone
At the beginning of 2011 I began providing some simple workshops or workshoots as some call them, in lieu of doing private lessons. Teaching a small group at a time allows me to make the workshops more affordable for most, compared to more expensive one-on-one sessions.
In this short amount of time, I’ve hosted workshops on portraits, maternity posing, boudoir and figure shoots. I also hosted a bridal/wedding workshop in an effort to share my expertise and insight from shooting weddings for more than seven years. I prefer to host workshops based on their demand. If there’s interest in a genre that I can offer assistance to other photographers, I put a workshop together. Over the next few months I have four completely different workshops available.
I have set up a group on flickr to provide detailed descriptions and directions to the different studios, as well as payment instructions for anyone interested.
*This Sunday!!* On July 24th, I am hosting a maternity workshop in Atlanta. At this workshop, you’ll learn several ways on how to take care of a pregnant client. Even if you never plan on doing any maternity photography, this workshop can be advantageous for you. If you are just trying to learn how to pose a client or how to use lighting, this workshop will help you improve your craft. This workshop will be located at StudioPlex and still has a few spots available. We have three pregnant models who are also experienced with posing, so they will make for some beautiful images. As a bonus, one of my former pregnant models is bringing her 9 week old son, giving you the chance to photograph him. This will give you the experience you’ll want in order to follow up after your clients have their child. We will provide all the studio lighting and modifiers, all you’ll need to bring is your camera. This workshop is $78/participant.
On August 7th, I’ll be hosting a boudoir & figure workshop at the Artmore Hotel. The venue is gorgeous and has plenty of natural light available. The models, Bonnie Rae & Michelle Lopez, are both very experienced in posing. However, I will be assisting in posing and lighting as needed. Evan Tantum will also be available to assist you with any questions you might have. This event is being co-hosted by Naturally Boudoir and Michelle Lopez will be posing for the figure workshop part of the event. This workshop is $95/participant.
On August 21st I’ll be hosting a camera basics workshop. This one is going to be directed towards brand new photographers. Maybe you have just bought a camera, a point & shoot or a digital SLR and you want to take better photographs. This course will help you develop a better understanding of how the settings on your camera work, as well as properly exposing a photo and basic composition of your subject. This workshop will also include a stroll where you will implement your newly found knowledge right away! It will be located off of Metropolitan Parkway, so its centrally located for everyone! This workshop will be taught by Evan Tantum and I will be assisting. This workshop is $50/participant.
Last but definitely NOT least is the bridal/wedding workshop on September 4th hosted at the Eagles Landing Country Club. It is by far the most expensive of the workshops, but it is also the most thorough and in depth offering. If you have any plans of shooting weddings, this workshop is a MUST. You’ll learn the importance of shooting details, where and how to spot them too. This is also a great opportunity for anyone who is or will be a second shooter. As a second shooter, the details are what you will be focusing on the most. Not only do you get to shoot at a beautifully decorated venue, capture gorgeous brides in beautiful gowns, I will also have two groom models to complete the feel of a wedding. Also, there will be opportunities to shoot the food that the chef prepares for us, just as if you were to capture it for the bride and groom. MasLeon Cakes & Pastries will be providing us with some sweets to not only shoot but partake in as well! This workshop is $260/participant.
SPONSORS / VENDORS
As with ALL of the jhp workshops our sponsor, Oscar Ferrer with Aperturent.com supplies the students with a 15% discount should you choose to rent a camera or a lens for the weekend of the workshop. If you’ve never rented equipment, let me be the first to introduce you to Oscar. He is by far, the most easy-going person you will ever meet. This is a GREAT time to try out a fast prime lens or a full frame camera body to see if you’re ready to upgrade. His business is solid and he has great customer service. Follow him on twitter!
